Decoring of aluminium castings at highest technical stage(13.03.2007)
The ability to be able to react to change requests of customers flexible and fast is most important for the success of foundries. For the light-metal foundry of a Bavarian automotive manufacturer, the R. Scheuchl GmbH has developed a flexible decoring machine suitable for decoring different types of castings.
With the installation different crank cases are decored in short cycle times fully automated and effectively. Changeover times and changeover charges from one casting type to another do not exist.
After the castings are transported with a Power & Free conveying system into the safety area of the installation, the position coordinates of the casting are determined by means of a specially developed optical position recognition. Remarkable is the three-dimensional position recognition with only one camera which is installed approximatley one meter above the casting. The collected position coordinates are forwarded to the industrial roboter which takes the according casting up and puts it into the decoring machine.
The decoring machine itself consists of an oscillation decoring machine Shake Champion SC 320 with integrated pre-decoring. After the particular casting type has been put into the unit and has been clamped, two pneumatic hammers swing into working position. The casting is pre-decored and thus the firm core sand is largely broken into single nuggets. Afterwards the sand is completely removed by intensive swinging of the casting with an unique oscillation amplitude of approximately 36mm at a frequency of approximately 16 Hz.
A special success formula of the Shake Champion SC 320 is the vertical oscillation movement. As well proved in many practical tests even castings which are hard to decore, can be completely decored. After the decoring process the casting is by means of a robot taken out from the machine and given to the Power & Free conveyor.
Due to the integrated pre-decoring a transport of the casting, after the pre-decoring, into the oscillation decoring machine is not applicable. Consequently a carryover of the core sand into the robot cell is prevented. Sand arises only within the decoring machine and so the sand disposal can be carried out very easily.
The flexible clamping system and the integration of the pre-decoring and oscillation decoring machine into one machine result in the advantage that in order-quantity-1-operation different castings can be decored effectively.
