Fully automated handling of steel drums
The drum inliner system from R. Scheuchl GmbH opens steel drums with lid and locking ring, inserts the film inliner and closes the drums again – fully automatically and in continuous flow. The inliner is inserted without trapped air, so that the film lies directly and fully against the inner drum wall. This is the prerequisite for a process-reliable and reproducible filling operation.
The system concept scales to different cycle-time requirements – from a compact single station up to high-throughput lines with several processing stations working in parallel. Drums are fed via conveyor belt, optionally with or without pallets, and the feed is tailored individually to the customer-specific application.
Process sequence
- Drum supply – infeed via roller conveyor or rotary table; the drum is positioned.
- Open locking ring – a robot or actuator loosens and removes the locking ring.
- Remove lid – the lid is gripped and set aside or held.
- Insert inliner – the film inliner is fed in and placed into the drum.
- Refit lid – the lid is put back and the inliner edge is positioned.
- Close locking ring – the locking ring is fitted and closed; the drum leaves the station.
