Reduction of Weight and Consumption Through a Thin Steel Coating

Using the arc wire spraying process, a thin steel layer is sprayed directly onto the cylinder running surface of an aluminium crankcase. The coating is lighter than conventionally inserted cylinder liners. This results in both a weight reduction and more efficient fuel consumption.

A flexible test plant is available at Scheuchl for coating trials and process development.

SCHEUCHL LDS PLANTS - YOUR ADVANTAGES AT A GLANCE:

  • Scheuchl experience: over 30 million coated cylinder running surfaces in BMW crankcases
  • Significant weight savings
  • Increased heat conduction and improved cooling properties
  • High microporosity of the layer
  • Wear-resistant due to enormous layer hardness
  • Short process times through the high performance of the twin-wire process and multi-spindle plants
  • 300 kg wire drums
  • Fully automated and manual solution concepts possible
