LDS System (Twin-Wire Arc Spray System)

Scheuchl was honoured by the BMW Group with the “Supplier Innovation Award” for the development of the so-called twin-wire arc spray process (LDS process).
Description of the process
With the twin-wire arc spray process, a very thin steel layer is applied directly onto the aluminium running surfaces inside crankcases. This layer is significantly lighter than the conventional steel liner, thereby reducing weight and fuel consumption. The process was developed, tested and brought to series maturity in many years of close cooperation with the BMW Group.
