Post-Decoring Station for Crankcases

Particularly with casting processes using inorganic binders in the core sand, problems increasingly arise with minimal amounts of residual sand in the casting. This residual sand comes from small sand adhesions in the edges and corners of channels, as well as from penetrations (inclusions of sand grains in the casting material). In order to nevertheless remove the majority of this residual sand, R. Scheuchl GmbH has developed a special process. For this purpose, the casting is subjected to a special hammering process carried out with individual Scheuchl hammers.

The reference example shown here presents a single post-decoring station that handles the removal of residual sand from crankcases. For noise-protection reasons, the decoring station is enclosed in its own sound-insulation cabin. The station is loaded by a robot through an L-shaped sliding door. After the casting has been inserted, the hammer unit, pneumatically driven, swivels over the crankcase from behind. The decoring process is then started automatically. Once completed, the hammer unit swivels back and the robot can remove the crankcase from the station again.
