Reprocessing of Aqueous Rinsing Fluids

Rinsing fluids in automotive painting

Reference project

R. Scheuchl GmbH has developed an innovative process that reprocesses the rinsing fluids of modern waterborne paints in automotive painting. As a result, these fluids can be continuously reused in closed-loop operation.

Advantages of the Process

Compared with the previous single use and disposal, the system offers considerable savings:

  • Significantly reduced consumption of petrochemical raw materials
  • Lower energy demand
  • Drastic reduction of CO₂ emissions
  • Minimisation of volatile organic compounds

Technical Background

In the past, simple distillation made it possible to reprocess solvent-based paints. However, modern water-based paint systems require aqueous rinsing fluids with complex mixtures of solvents and additives that, for chemical and physical reasons, cannot be reprocessed by standard distillation.
